The problem with electoral democracy is that the skill set that you need to get elected is not the same as the skill set that you need to be a good leader. We use the political process to choose our leaders, and then we are shocked when our leaders turn out to be politicians.
We need more meritocratic principles in our democracies.
I might also add (from the evil monarchist in me) that it would help if we had a knowledgeable electorate and/or a qualifying civics exam in order to be eligible to vote. But that’s just me being and anticonstitutional @$$hole
I don’t think that’s anticonstitutional at all. If you will recall, the Constitution originally provided that only white male landowners could vote. As presently amended, everyone who is a citizen can vote, with no other qualifications.
Putting restrictions on the franchise right now without amending the Constitution would be unconstitutional, but there’s nothing inherently anticonsitutional about the notion. You would just have to amend the Constitution.
