I was standing on a playground near Rock Creek Park, nestled up against the woods. It was mid-day, and the sun was bright, casting yellow light on bright green leaves everywhere. I slowly turned to my left, and standing nearby in a copse of leafy trees was an imposing horned figure, his face in shadow. His horns or antlers arched high above his head, and he was draped in a blood-red robe of come kind. Seeing him, there was a half-second of hang time, of total silence, and then his presence pushed so powerfully on me that it shoved me out of my dream and into wakefulness. It was like a psychic hand-grenade went off when I looked at him.
Who was he? Pan? Cernunnos? Herne? Some other horned god? What does he want from me? Why did he show himself to me?
Kullervo,
Thank you for sharing such a powerful experience. I find this personally interesting. I’ve remarked in my posts over the past year that I keep having similar experiences with an unnamed horned/antlered god of some sort. When I discovered Dionysos I thought that perhaps it was him in “disguise”, but truthfully I still keep getting frequent tugs from the unnamed horned one even now. To this day I have not figured out who he is or what our relationship is to be, if any.
He is on the hunt it would seem. 🙂 Good luck wherever this may lead.

Kullervo, check out episode 2 of the Druidcast podcast… Ronald Hutton gives an interesting speech on the historical evolution of the Horned God in the 19th Century… some interesting ideas in there… good luck unscrewing the inscrutable!
Peace,
Pax
If I may also add a suggestion. I personally find this prose by Damh the Bard entitled The Horned God: an unofficial biography, to be very inspiring. He read it aloud during one of the more recent OBOD podcasts and I found it quite moving.

Still thinking about this one, by the way.
I Was meditating during an Imbolc Ritual recently and Herne revealed himself to me, as a young stag, whilst he was watching over our circle. For a short time we mad eye contact, but he then calmly walked away back into the dark of the woods.
Since then the tiredness of my busy Yule period has gone. In fact I feel totally refreshed and feel almost younger in my energy and vitality.
